This article on Boing Boing is by a gentleman who would like to create (or have someone create) a Sing-A-Long version of Jesus Christ Superstar, as has been done with Sound of Music and some other movie musicals in recent years.
Personally, I would love this. Because you see, I have a confession to make.
I freakin' LOVE Jesus Christ Superstar.
I first heard it when I was about 14 years old. It was the "Brown Album", featuring Ian Gillian (lead singer of Deep Purple, and later Black Sabbath) as Jesus, Murray Head (One Night In Bangkok) as Judas, and Yvonne Elliman (If I Can't Have You) as Mary Magdalene. I instantly fell in love with it, and I still pull it out to listen to quite a bit.
One of the great disappointments in my life is that, as a baritone/bass, I can't sing the part of Judas (he's a tenor... and a complex one, at that). But let me tell you... I can do one badass Pontius Pilate, or Ciaphas.
The score... Andrew Lloyd Webber's third (he wrote "The Likes Of Us" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" before this, but they weren't produced until years later)... is, IMNSHO, still his best work. Thematically the music hangs together remarkably well, and displays a complexity that ALW's later work often missed. And Tim Rice's lyrics are a perfect fit. I still think that it's one of the best retellings of the Passion Play, and songs like "Heaven On Their Minds", "Gethsemene", "Pilate's Dream", "Herod's Song" and the well-known "Superstar" are among some of my favorites.
The lyrics, at times, carry an AMAZING power to them, and it's some of Rice's best work. The amount of raw emotion displayed in "Gethsemene", "I Don't Know How To Love Him", "Judas' Death" and "The Trial" is stunning, and I've seen audiences moved to tears by these scenes when I've seen it staged.
Kinda odd for an agnostic, eh? ;-)
So, does anyone else out there share this rather bizarre obsession of mine? Or do you have any of your own you'd like to share? |

I have been watching all the movies that won the Oscar for Best Picture. The next on my list was the 1986 winner, Platoon, directed by Oliver Stone and starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe.
Platoon is a Vietnam War drama that follows one unit from the viewpoint of new recruit Chris (Sheen). The film shows the human side of warfare, for better and worse. Based on Stone's Vietnam experiences, the movie was praised as the first film to depict the realities of the Vietnam War.
The other Best Picture nominees that year were Children of a Lesser God, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Mission and A Room with a View. Platoon also won Oscars for Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound. ( My thoughts on Platoon. ) |

Congratudolences. As in, Abney Park's new album has been released, and the orders are massive. So massive, in fact, that meeting the demands of the workload is, well, crushing. Congratulations on your success, our condolences on the amount of work you have to do now.
As in, a woman's daughter is getting married, and she (the mom) has to plan the entire wedding by herself with no help.
Congratudolences. |

Judge in GGW trial wants footage turned over
PANAMA CITY, Fla. – A judge in Florida wants footage to be turned over to the court so he can decide on a motion to dismiss a civil suit against "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis.
U.S. District Judge Richard Smoak on Wednesday ordered all relevant videos be handed to him so he can make a final ruling on the motion by Francis' lawyers. Smoak said the motion relies on the plaintiff's actions in the videos.
OK, so let me make sure I've got this straight...
A judge who's name sounds like "Dick Smoke" wants to watch some "Girls Gone Wild" footage.
It's times like this that my inner 12-year-old just can't help but giggle. |

| Conservatives behaving badly |
[Dec. 3rd, 2009|03:24 pm] |
This sort of thing is very common. This sort of thing is why so many liberals are coming to fear and even hate conservatives. These folks may be in the minority, but they are loud and aggressive. They are drowning out the conservatives who aren't insane.

that I actually like.

I'm not sure if I love the printed word as much as she does.

I used to be able to eat a plate full of pasta from a restaurant. Can't do that anymore. Took half of this home. Must've been the salad and bread that came before, but I love this dish, Salmon Rosé. Ate it at Mamma Lucia's in Rockville, Maryland with my family during Thanksgiving break. Got a few CD's while I was down there. I'm digging the new Brian Setzer CD. That thing RAWKS!!!
